The government of India has recently launched the world’s largest government-funded healthcare scheme named ‘Ayushman Bharat Yojana’. This scheme aims to ate providing health care facilities to poor and deprived families of rural and urban workers. Under this scheme, over 10 crore families of India will enjoy the health insurance coverage of Rs. 5 lakh per family. This scheme also subsumes the current Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana that was launched in the year 2008 by the Indian government.

This scheme provides a complete healthcare coverage benefit to over 50 crore citizens of India and comes up with salient features like:

  • People who are eligible under the PMJAY health scheme are automatically covered under this scheme
  • This scheme covers 1.354 medical and surgical package that are categorised under 25 specialities like neurosurgery, cardiology, oncology or other different types of cancers and burns
  • In the case of hospitalisation, the patient does not have to pay anything when visited to the government hospital or even when selected an empanelled private hospital for the treatment
  • There is no waiting period even for the pre-existing diseases and cover all kinds of diseases from the day of enrolling for the scheme

In terms of eligibility, there no compulsory to enrol to avail the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. The scheme is an entitlement bases mission and is introduced for already identified 50 crore beneficiaries across India.
